Myanmar eVisas and International flights to Be Resumed

Myanmar has now resumed business visa processing for travelers around the world. Business travelers can now apply online for an electronic visa for Myanmar.

Myanmar Resumes All Electronic Visas and International Flights

On April 4, at 10 a.m., the Ministry of Immigration and Population held a meeting to discuss the resumption of the online Myanmar business e Visa service. This service will be available for the first time in over two years. Following the Ministry of Health’s health guidelines, MYANMAR will resume its electronic visa service for business purposes on April 1, 2022.

The service was halted on March 20, 2020, due to the COVID-19 outbreak. International passenger aircraft are allowed to enter the country from April 17 as the COVID-19 situation is under control and the number of cases detected decreases. From April 1, 2022, the ministry will resume its e-Visa service for businesses. That notice has been issued on the official e-Visa website, and 54 e-Visa applicants have applied thus far.

Details of the New Policy

According to Union Minister U Khin Yi, Myanmar is allowing ordinary passport holders from 100 countries and China (Taipei) e-Visas for tourism purposes and from 54 countries and China (Taipei) e-Visas for business the Ministry of Immigration and Population. This service is to be offered 100% online. Applicants have been advised to apply online to get their visa instead of visiting an embassy or consulate nearby.

The announcement further stated that the visa processing is in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 norms and regulations. This meeting aimed to examine issues such as health insurance, travel health protocols, and other essential precautions taken by the departments involved.

Following the operations, they made a statement to announce the COVID-19 business travel requirements for travelers arriving on April 17 and to alert -Visa applicants of the required documentation.

COVID-19 Business Traveler Requirements in Myanmar

For business travelers, COVID-19 entry requirements remain in effect. Foreigners must meet the current conditions to go to Myanmar for business meetings and activities.

1. COVID-19 vaccination is required for all business travels.

A vaccine certificate demonstrating complete vaccination with a Myanmar Ministry of Health-approved vaccine is necessary.

At least 14 days before arrival, all vaccinations must have been performed.

2. To go to Myanmar on a business visa, a PCR test is required.

A COVID-19 RT-PCR test must be taken no more than 72 hours before arriving in Myanmar for business travelers. The medical certificate must be provided to airline officials at the origin airport and Myanmar’s entry/exit gates.

PCR testing is not required for applicants who have recovered from COVID-19 within the last 90 days. They must have proof of a COVID-19 infection in the past.

3. Myanmar business traveler’s health declaration

Travelers must fill out a COVID-19 health declaration form and submit it to airport health officials.

4. Requirements for business travelers in terms of testing and quarantine: 

Business visitors arriving in Myanmar must take a COVID-19 PCR test at a selected hotel at their own expense.

Visitors must stay at the hotel until the test results are received. The findings are usually available within 24 hours. After receiving a negative result, travelers are free to depart the hotel.

5. Myanmar must have COVID-19 insurance.

COVID-19 insurance is required for travelers arriving in Myanmar on a business eVisa.
